Job Description

The purpose of this position is to create a dashboard of Key Performance Indicators for the Customer Experience function in marketing.

This individual will create queries and reports from various data sources. This position also provides training and support to business users performing data queries and using the reporting tools. This position will function as part of the marketing function, predominantly in a content generation (report authoring) capacity.


1. Develops, codes, and tests queries and reports based on user specified criteria against various databases. Creates and performs queries and reports on both an ad hoc basis and according to predetermined schedules using the BI suite of products to design accurate and appropriate reports that are sustainable and useful.

2. Develops the scope and design of reports by working closely with the business unit and project managers. Applies comprehensive business knowledge and thorough understanding of database structure and BI capabilities to filter and guide business users requests.

3. Works with IT application developers, database analyst, and other Business Intelligence Competency Center resources to ensure report design meshes with the companys business intelligence capacity and needs. Determines whether requested data resides in the databases and recommends additions of data or new categorical variables to meet user needs. Works with the Application delivery team to facilitate updates to data extract programs to accommodate the population of data into the respective databases. Assists the Database Analysts in defining, creating, and maintaining the data dictionary, and in providing end users access to the data dictionary.

4. Partners with business users to implement business/functional design and to ensure quality report development that meet business/functional requirements.

5. Provides training to internal and external users on the BI applications and provides help desk functionality in support of the BI application. Works with business users to help them understand the data types and structures contained within various databases. Assists users in designs that maximize optimum query performance.

6. Researches and resolves variances and inconsistencies in information by conducting initial investigation of source system and developing appropriate resolutions.

7. Provide backup as needed to other members of the division.WORKING CONDITIONSMinimal local and overnight travel may be required. Overtime may be required to fulfill the objectives of the position. Constant PC usage will be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES A bachelors degree in business, information technology, mathematics, or related field and a minimum of 3 to 5 years relevant experience is required. A minimum of 2 years experience in the financial services / insurance industry is preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong questioning and listening skills and ability to look beyond obvious answers and understand the impact on other areas is required. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Proven presentation skills, strong leadership skills, along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with clients and technical staff under difficult circumstances, is required.Strong data analysis skills and creativity in identifying new opportunities and evaluating alternatives is required.The proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work in both a collaborative (team) environment as well as perform independent work as required. Previous business requirements gathering and experience at estimating projects is strongly preferred. Ability to document detailed and specific information is highly preferred.

Experience with Cognos and/or Business Objects, SQL, BRIO, Hyperion, MS Suite of products. Must be knowledgeable about relational database concepts.
